For the purpose of this Code of Ethics “Teacher” refers to a Full Member of IYTA
- A teacher is expected to teach with goodwill and respect for all and with acknowledgment of the developing totality of the human state, physical, mental and spiritual, of all people.
- A Teacher conducts him or herself according to the teaching of Ashtanga Yoga (Eight Limbs of Yoga) as outlined in the Sutras of Patanjali and aims to abide by the Yamas and Niyamas of these teachings.
- A Teacher should at all times guide students with an awareness of differing individual needs, using knowledge and experience gained from IYTA training and continuing Yoga education.
- A Teacher should recommend a student seek advice from a qualified health professional for appropriate advice / treatment where necessary.
- A Teacher conducts him or herself in a way that is respectful of and in consideration of students’ gender, ethnicity and cultural and religious beliefs.
- The Teacher should strive to be an example of cleanliness and purity of body, mind and habits.
- Condemnation or criticism of fellow Yoga Teachers or members of the IYTA in public, in the media, in a group, or class, is not tolerated. A respectful attitude to members of the Association is to be maintained at all times.
- Confidential information of concern only to his or her professional Association or its members should not be revealed by a member to outsiders or students.
- Student information is confidential and should be managed in a professional manner, while documentation must be kept in a secure location.
- Yoga advertising in any medium should be of a professional standard and refrain from implying supernatural connections or powers.
- An Association Member must refrain from using this membership to publicise or disseminate political or religious dogmas.
- Any Member found to have infringed this Code of Ethics might have membership of this Association suspended or revoked.
